Thomas G. Hobby is the founder and CEO of SCR Management Incorporated, with over 20 years of experience in the natural resource sector. Hobby has worked as a teacher, academic researcher, commercial lender and as a private consultant. Over the past decade, he has worked on applied forestry and agricultural research topics including:

  • forest stewardship
  • First Nations land ethics and management
  • forest ecosystem restoration
  • wildfire hazard assessments and forest fuel hazard reduction
  • non-timber forest resources
  • agro-forestry
  • forest range management

Linked to his forestry stewardship research, has been his support in the development of biomass energy initiatives and the improvement of forest biomass inventory estimations and harvesting cost tools. Professionally trained in Canada and the United States, Hobby has an academic background in economics, business administration, finance, forestry and agriculture. He has previously held appointments with Royal Roads University, the University of Victoria and the BC Ministry of Forest, where he led forest and agriculture research, development and innovation projects.
 



Shelly Xia

Shelly has an MSc in Engineering from China, and a MA Economics from Concordia University in Quebec. She is soon to achieve her CGA designation in British Columbia and she serves as the Financial Manager for the day-to-day operations and is responsible for full-cycle accounting for SCR Management Inc. and the BioStewards Inc. group of companies.

Claudia is an entrepreneur and business professional, with 11 years of experience in the apparel industry and as an independent business owner. Her background as Account Manager, has given her a solid foundation in sales, management and advertising. Claudia holds a diploma in office administration and is continuously upgrading her skills with her par-time studies.  As Project Manager for SCR management, she is responsible for office operations; her skills enable her to keep the office running smoothly and she plays a key role in the company’s project planning.

 



Yenny Mosquera

Marketing and Business Development Coordinator

Yenny is an International Business Management professional with a Master’s degree in Global Management from Royal Roads University and academic training in Microcomputer Business Systems, Business Administration and Political Science.  With over 7 years of professional experience working with national and multinational companies, Yenny has worked in the areas of marketing, public relations, business development and operations management. Her most recent experience was as Director of Operations for an international firm of architects and designers. In addition, she has worked with several non-profit organizations initiating community projects for youth and families in transition. Yenny is passionate about working in multicultural environments, especially when related to environmental and social issues. She loves nature, music and her Latina roots. As SCR Management Marketing and Business Development Coordinator, Yenny is responsible for developing the company marketing strategies and execution through corporate marketing materials including all media channels and public relations. She is the principal manager of developing all facets of marketing for the new businesses that SCR embarks on and provides marketing advice for SCR clients in forestry, bioenergy and agriculture.

 



Candace Thompson

Farm Business Planning Apprentice

Candace is owner and operator of Eagle Paws Organics where for 14 years, she has farmed a small organic operation near Sooke, BC. She is passionate about local organic agriculture, food security and sustainable production methods and has been a champion in her local community over her tenure as an example farmer. In addition to farming, she serves as an agricultural educator in the greater Victoria region where she teaches vocational agriculture at two local high schools part-time. Candace has also been involved in local farming Non-profits including the Vancouver Island Certified Organic Association and the Sooke Food Community Health Initiative. She also has served as a farm consultant and a writer as she has a passion for developing and documenting agricultural stories and wisdom of farming elders both locally and internationally. Candace will assist with SCRs farm business planning consultancy and with managing farming operations lands within British Columbia and abroad.
