Thermal wood biomass energy – capacity building

  • Project Leader – Thermal Wood Biomass Heating Workshop, Cranbrook, BC. 2011
  • Project Leader – Fuels For Schools Tour and Thermal Biomass Heating Workshop, Cranbrook BC. 2010

SCR Management with the support of the Columbia Basin Trust, the BC Bioenergy Network, and the Rocky Mountain Trench Natural Resources Society, led the coordination of a Montana public schools tour in June, 2010 where 25 community leaders from BC visited wood fired biomass heating systems that have been part of the US Fuels for Schools Program, which is supported by the Biomass Energy Resource Centre (Vermont), the USFS, and the Montana Department of Natural Resources. Tom facilitated an educational session while on the tour to Montana and he presented about the opportunities for small-scale biomass energy development within BC. SCR also coordinated two follow-up thermal biomass energy workshops that hosted over 70 participants and had 9 speakers from the US and Canada. Tom presented on bioenergy topics that included: market and non-market values for supporting fuels treatment projects, thermal wood biomass energy project development steps for BC, and forest engineering research issues related to supply chain economics. These presentations and reports are available by contacting SCR.
