A bioenergy production feasibility

SCR led a 2008-2009 study that included a fibre supply and economic analysis for alternative biomass bioenergy development in Lillooet, and Merritt Timber Supply Areas (TSAs), along with demolition, land clearing and construction (DLC) waste from the Thompson-Nicola Regional District, the Greater Vancouver Regional District and the city of Vancouver. Within the study’s scope, biomass supplies were identified that included a large volume of available mountain pine beetle pine fibre in the Lillooet and Merritt TSAs, which was predicted to kill 13.8 million m3 and 42 million m3 respectively over the next 5 years. The study provided estimates for feedstock cost procurement, reviewed existing commercial biomass energy technologies and scoped emerging technologies such as bio-char. In addition, the study evaluated pre-feasibility financial estimates for combined heat and power, wood pellets and thermal gasification options.
